The most amazing man of our time, Charlie, bar none. THE greatest jockey of all time, who by happenstance, or by some other quirk of nature, just happened to be paired with THE greatest racehorse of all time. And with a combination like that, my friend, no-one else stands a snowball's chance in hell. Secretariat. Big Red. He nosed past Sham half way up the back stretch and never looked back. Sham never did catch up to Secretariat again, and never ever knew where ta hell he went to. I remember vividly, glued to the TV, watching, anticipating, having a gut feeling that SOMETHING was about to happen. And as he headed into the final turn, LIKE A TREMENDOUS MACHINE, I sat and watched, totally blown away and speechless (much like you would be were you ever to find yourself in the great ballroom of Rideau Hall to graciously accept the Order of Canada). The biggest Canadian sports story of all time, pal, I don't give a damn what they say. Oh sure, he was not a Canadian horse, it was not a Canadian sporting event. But, by golly, this was Ron Turcotte, from lil' ole Grand Falls, New Brunswick, CANADA!!!! HERE'S A TOAST TO OUR FAVORITE SON!!!! Ya done one helluva fine, fine super-fine job.
