16 groups confirm support for Fredericton climate event as part of community-organized 'March for Jobs, Justice & the Climate' in cities across Canada on July 4th

Fredericton – A coalition of 16 community and environmental groups have issued a joint statement of support for the 'March for Jobs, Justice & the Climate' event that will be held this Saturday, July 4th, 1:00pm-1:45pm in downtown Fredericton, New Brunswick.

The public is invited to meet in front of the Legislature Building, 706 Queen Street, Fredericton at 1:00pm, and then take a short walk to the pedestrian Train Bridge for a photo-op over the Saint John River (the Wolastoq). There will be lots of banners and RED 'JobsJusticeClimateAction' signs for everyone. This will be a great photo opportunity on the bridge to show our support for a just transition to a clean energy future.

Fredericton will join communities across Canada with climate events on July 4th, including St. John's, Annapolis Valley, Halifax, Québec City, Lac Mégantic, Hudson-Oka, Thunder Bay, Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Nelson, and Vancouver. The weekend will culminate in a large rally planned the next day in Toronto on July 5th which will feature prominent leaders from labour unions, Indigenous communities, and divestment groups.

In their joint statement, the 16 groups urge our political leaders to take action on climate, "This is the moment to come together like never before, to massively invest in green infrastructure and clean energy and create hundreds of thousands of climate-friendly jobs. We join together with communities standing up to tar sands pipelines and with student divestment organizers fighting for a safe climate future. We unite with workers being laid off by the thousands in the Alberta oil patch and with Indigenous communities working to build clean energy solutions on the frontlines of extraction."

The international divestment organization, 350.org, is co-ordinating and promoting the events across Canada. On their website, 350.org highlights the Fredericton event by stating, "In Fredericton, at the iconic walking bridge that towers over the St John/Wolastoq river, people will assemble to show they are ready for an economy that works for people." And 350.org also highlights, "These mobilizations are striving to take leadership from First Nations communities that are on the frontlines of fossil fuel extraction and the climate crisis."

Claude Sonier of College Bridge passed away at the Dr. Georges L. Dumont University Hospital Center on Sunday June 28, 2015 at the age of 72. Born on May 29, 1943, he was the son of the late Arthur and Eveline (Landry) Sonier. He was a teacher and principal of Abbey Landry School for 32 years. He will be sadly missed by his wife Dorine; two daughters, Claudine (Bruce) Sweeney of Quispamsis and Brigitte Sonier of Dieppe; two sons, Martin (Florence) Sonier and Bert (Janel) Sonier both of Memramcook; 4 grandchildren, Erika, Alissa, Veronik and Adèle; one sister, Odette (Albert) Landry of Dieppe and by several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at Dupuis Funeral Home, Memramcook on Thursday July 2 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm and on Friday July 3 from 10 to 11 am. Funeral service will be held at Dupuis Funeral Home on Friday July 3, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be held in the Saint Thomas de Memramcook parish cemetery. Bilingualism was brought in to make things fair for all NBers, not to make everyone in the prov need to speak both langs in order to have a job, not to harm NBers, and not to give jobs to Quebecers Just another way this has been perverted since it was enacted. If they want tto make the position bilingual, then they should at least wait until the guy retires in 10 months ..., this was likely done at least in part to save money, now they will not need to pay his full pension.

On Saturday night < June 20^th > at around 10:00pm. A pedestrian was struck by a Police Cruiser from the Fredericton Police Force. The Citizen was crossing the street on Westmorland Street. The episode lasted a few minutes. The Police Officer step outside and told the individual to sit in the back and he drove him to the Hospital.

Now...something is VERY wrong with this picture. How come the Ambulance wasn’t contacted??? How come other Police Officers weren’t called to the accident scene???

What would happened if a citizen followed the same action??? Would it be a crime to follow the same procedure???

To make the situation worst, the accident was filmed by some bystanders. They called the Police Station to explain what just happened.

The Police refuse to come to the scene of the crime and the concern citizens were told to come to the Police Station to filed in a complaint.

Mind you it was late on a Saturday night and you could tell by the video that the witnesses were having a good time so therefore they didn’t want to end up in the holding cell for the evening.

I want the Commission to investigate this issue. I want to know how come the Police Chief didn’t order a outside Force to investigate this issue and why the ambulance wasn’t called? Also the fact the Cops refuse to visit the scene of the crime scares me.

Your past record of truly investigating the Fredericton Police Force isn’t up to par so I will copy this letter to the Minister of Public Safety Stephen Horsman.
