WILL NEW BRUNSWICKERS VOTE FOR CHANGE IN 2014 FOR THE FIRST TIME IN OVER 100 YEARS????

New Brunswickers, and indeed, Canadians, Charlie, have been hoodwinked and hypnotized since the very age of confederation itself, into casting their ballots for the same ole mundane, worn out, sleepy, narrow-minded, self-centered, self-righteous, snobs for so damn long that they have fallin' ASLEEP AT THE F----N WHEEL!!!! Voting for the two main, old-line parties, pal, ya might as well be votin' for Vladimir Putin or Osama Bin Ladin. Here we are shippin' all of our university graduates ta hell outta here to work and we have our two "main line" party leaders promotin' shale gas and a minimum wage increase. WELL, WHOOP-D-DOO, HOLY SHIT, MAMA MIA, who gives a rat's ass???? Hell, man we gotta bring back the Parti Acadien, CoR and Reform along with Green and the Peoples Aliance.
But the man above all Charlie, ole buddy, ole pal, is Dominic himself, who will, withgout a doubt, lead us out of the wilderness and into the promised land.
Bring 'em all on, my good and decent friend, Dopminic, Abel, Kelly, Bev, who-ever da hell ya want,
But fer da luvva God, git yer welfare bum heads outta da f----n' sand,
let go of yer ole habits and VOTE FER SOMETHIN'!!!!

DeleteThe problem is not lack of votes, New Brunswick has voter turnout that would make other provinces jealous if government's actually wanted people to vote. And in New Brunswick, its the voting SYSTEM that has screwed New Brunswickers over for dozens of years (ironically, back in the fifties NB had a sort of variation of proportional representation). So yeah, it goes back and forth, and its to the credit of New brunswickers that it goes back and forth and they aren't stupid enough to throw their votes away on third, fourth or fifth parties. Sadly it is the electoral system that says that if you didn't vote for the guy who wins, you may as well not have voted anyway, your vote means nothing.
ReplyDeleteA big problem is that over the years people have developed such a loathing for the two main parties, that because there are only two main parties this has kept New Brunswickers from joining one of them. Although it has high voter turnout, New Brunswick has one of the lowest rates of political party membership in Canada. And its WITHIN political parties that real change happens.
For example, if ALL the people so PO'd at the liberals and conservatives-who then went on to join the People's Alliance, Greens, and even NDP had simply joined the liberal party and run nominees within the ridings, a large proportion of the liberal party would be against shale gas, the forestry deal, and corporate welfare.
So that would actually be SOME power because a party leader can't pass his legislation on his own, this isn't america where the leader has separate powers above the legislature. As opposed to now, when they will most likely split the vote to give a majority government. I've heard from people saying to 'vote Green' on the off chance that their 'may' be a minority government and so getting ONE seat would give them some clout. That's not nearly as effective as having people WITHIN government.
So the real problem is NOT people 'not voting', its partly that people think that in a democracy the ONLY thing they are supposed to do is show up every four years and cast a ballot. Democracy is a full time job.
