Brian Gallant Government force Fredericton resident Serena Woods to walk home in the dark from Miramichi to Fredericton!!!!

I admire this woman to be brave enough to share her story

This is happening ALL THE TIME and the Brian Gallant Government are laughing at this issue.

Listen to this video....I promise that I will go after the Liberal Government right till the next election.

As Trudeau said - Just watch me!!!! This must come to a stop!!!

  1. This woman was victimized and abused by the system whoever the officers were that left her by the side of the road miles from home should be ashamed of themselves, but likely had a good laugh as they drove away and left her in the fading light and the cold. We are becoming a very cold society for those who live on its margins and that stinks of hypocrisy. Richard

  3. This is an example of the situations that poverty can lead one into, in this case, the woman could not afford to pay a fine that was levied against her by the court. While most working persons can pay their fines being detained is not an issue, but for those who can't pay its off the old Calaboose in lieu of the fine. The arrested and detained this woman and sent her off to the Miramichi institute for women, but by the time she arrived she had because of her detention all ready "Paid her fine". Essentially, the institution gave her release papers upon arrival but offered to way back to Fredericton.

Again because she doesn't have any money she can argue if she was detained longer than the amount owing, it may be that the province owes her money.

When we think of jails we think of criminal offences, Actually Criminal offences are a small part of the hundreds of thousands of offences, Environmental offences, Ships safety, motor vehicle, Unemployment Insurance violations, Municipal bylaw violations, and so on. And most people will violate one of these non-criminal offences but have the ability to pay the fine.

So the system is not equitable because its based on whether or not you can pay your fine. Which means that people in the state of poverty will go to jail, in that respect jails are almost synonymous with the poor houses of 18 century England.

The rest of the Provincial system is not different it is still in the dark ages, the jails themselves are just holding tanks for people who are sentenced to two years less a day. Thanks Charles for bringing this matter to the public.

If others would speak out like this young woman, we would see how bad our system is, but most will not, like everyone else in fear of retaliation.
