This shouldn't be happening at all, just dropping someone off in the winter at a gas station an hour before sundown, and pointing the direction of a 2-hour drive home. It blows my mind that this would happen anywhere in the civilized Western world.
This isn't the only time it happens, it's policy. It's just a matter of time before something bad happens, a murder, dying of exposure, an assault, a rape, kidnapping, god only knows what, if such things haven't happened already.
I'd suggest contacting CBC-News and suggest they undertake a GoPublic investigation.
The police treated her like a criminal and when she was a dropped of charges left a citizen in harm's way when the police should of protected her. Leaving her in a strange city with not enough money for tranportation home. They picked her up in the first place because she was begging for money. The police left her to beg a drive back home from Miramichi to Fredericton. Shame on our system. Happy you made it home safely but sorry for your distress.
