Some concerns questions for St.Mary's First Nation????
February 6th 2019
Dear Chief Polchies, Band Manager and Council,
We write this letter in regards to a self appointed raise with no over-site or community input. The raise given of $2600.00 per year and per councilor equals $62,400.00 over a two year term. This is a grievous conflict of interest and feel this should be addressed by the community at a community meeting before any money is released. This is based on:
1. All the businesses are failing, you cannot have any successful business if the only items keeping everything a float is a taxation agreement, tobacco, fuel and gambling proceeds.
2. The Board of Directors do have policies and procedures in place that protects the community’s resources.
3. We as a community have legal standing to also protect our resources.
We feel a community meeting with the BOD present to justify such an increase is an appropriate request based on the above reasoning
. In the past 6 months the council has been well taken care of. I’m assuming all the Core funding (31000)has been released, trips to Montreal and Halifax, free bingo passes, cell phones, 1000 Christmas bonus, royaltie and pay checks. My God how much more do they need? They take money from the bingo hall, band hall and now retails sales.
Concern citizen,
St Mary's First Nation
