Fredericton South Candidates face questions about Shale Gas!!!

2 comments:

  1. A vote for the Liberals is a vote for shale gas.

At the NB Liberal Policy Convention held in Fredericton on April 26, 2014, a Liberal delegate put forward an amendment asking for a minimum 4-year time period on the shale gas moratorium. The Liberals voted down this amendment.

    (1) Without a minimum time period, the Liberals will simply reverse their moratorium within the first couple of years of their mandate; and

    (2) By not providing exact details of the moratorium, the Liberals may just impose a moratorium on new development and not existing licenses.

Are you listening Roy Wiggins, Liberal candidate for Fredericton South????

  2. Actually, you CAN"T impose a moratorium on existing licenses. They all have signed contracts. Which means the province would be sued both in civil court and under NAFTA. Corridor Resources has been fracking for over a decade, you can't just show up and shut them down.

Its true that its doubtful that the liberals will do like nova scotia or other areas and simply shut it down. However, the 'rules' Alward keeps talking about are not regulations, they are permit conditions. The industry said the rules were too stringent-which shows that they are pretty good, and explains why the government didn't actually make them legislation.

The liberals, at the very least, would put the rules into legislation. Its pretty clear that Alward simply wants the industry to regulate itself.

So the liberals are not 'good', but at least they are not as bad as Alwards tories, and sadly, a vote for anybody but the liberals basically means voting for Alward.
