That's a joke right? What did they get last election, 5% of the total electorate, which is still less than it takes to win a single seat. Unfortunately, the more that kind of idea is out there-that the NDP may win a seat, or the Peoples Alliance, or an Independant, the more likely it is that David Alward will still be premier.
And also, sadly a spoiled ballot or not voting is another way of ensuring that David Alward will be Premier. I"m not saying the two parties are 'much' different, but obviously there is SOME difference. First of all, if shale gas interests you AT ALL then the liberal position is a moratorium, like all the other eastern provinces have, on the other side a majority government for Alward will most certainly be taken as a sign of support for 'full speed ahead' on some pretty AWFUL legislation.
Anybody that thinks the government cares whether you vote is crazy, the government LOVES non voters, fewer people to worry about. And if you think its some kind of political statement-quick, how many ballots were spoiled last election? Anybody know? Was it even reported? In ontario there was actually a political movement based on spoiling ballots, it was barely noticed in the press, and hasn't been mentioned since.
If it were a real difficult thing to do, and there were armed guards and government thugs watching you, then I'd agree. But voting is one of the only ways to stop REALLY bad legislation and show the world where you stand. You are either for unsustainable and poorly constructed legislation which will destroy the environment even more, caving in to corporate interests, and either supporting or at least accepting paramilitary policing (and no I'm not talking about charles).
Those are issues an individual has to ask themselves. And sadly the chips have always been stacked against the public, and in this case it means that spoiling your ballot, voting an independant, or voting a third party, is the same as voting for Alward. If it gives you comfort that while your environment is being wrecked you can say "hey, I voted Green, I'm clean", thats fine, but doesn't help the environment. Not that I'm saying the liberals will be much better, but once elected they know what people were voting AGAINST. And Gallant isn't like Alward-an old guy who would be perfectly happy to retire. He's just starting his political career, and while he may be green (so to speak), NOBODY is idiotic enough to not have seen what Alward and Graham's fate was.
well Gallant or his buddies always park on the sidewalks by their headquarters even after being ask not too ..so to me that is a sign that he does not listen to regular people

ReplyDeleteI don't think it matters if most people don't really vote.
ReplyDeleteWithdraw your consent to let crooks govern you - don't vote or spoil your ballot!
Great picture Charles, she looks like a stunner.
